Anthony Kocurek, owner of Energy Balance and Integration LLC, Albuquerque, New Mexico, was elected to serve as vice president on the SMACNA Executive Committee at the July Board of Directors meeting. His term begins on Oct. 17 at the close of the SMACNA Annual Convention.
He joins the 2018-2019 SMACNA Executive Committee: President Nathan Dills, president of ACP Sheet Metal Co. Inc., Oklahoma City, Okla. President-Elect Angela Simon, president of Western Allied Mechanical, Menlo Park, Calif. Secretary/Treasurer Al LaBella, owner of Blue Diamond Sheet Metal, Medford, N.Y. Immediate Past President Jack Knox president of R.F. Knox Company Inc., Smyrna, Ga.
Kocurek has long been dedicated to the industry, particularly in testing adjusting and balancing and more recently also with fire-life safety concerns. “I have benefitted greatly from SMACNA, both as an employee of a SMACNA member contractor and as an owner of a SMACNA-member company,” he said. “I want to do my part to ensure the many ways SMACNA makes the construction industry, and all those in it, better.”
A member of SMACNA’s Board of Directors from 2014 to 2018, Kocurek also serves as co-chair and trustee of the National Energy Management Institute Committee (NEMIC) and on the International Training Institute (iTi) TAB Task Force.
Active in the SMACNA-New Mexico chapter, he has served as its president, vice president, and secretary. Known for his commitment to labor-management partnership success, he has been a trustee of the Health and Welfare Board, trustee of the Defined Pension Board, and trustee of the Local 49 JATC.
Kocurek was instrumental in creating New Mexico’s Senate Memorial 27, a working committee that makes recommendations on inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire/smoke dampers and smoke control systems to educate the New Mexico community on fire-life safety.
He attended the University of New Mexico and graduated from the University of Phoenix. Kocurek entered the industry as a TAB apprentice working for Energy Balance Inc. and learned the trade with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 49. His community service includes working with the Boy Scouts of America as a varsity scout leader, an active member in the LDS Church, YAFL Football Assistant Coach, and serving on the board of directors for A.C.E., the Architectural, Construction, and Engineering Charter School.
